A Sweet Call

It was pitch dark outside, except for the string of lights Min set up at the picnic table. It kind of reminded me of the current scene around the world. COVID-19 – the darkness, tiny sparks of happiness – the picnic table.

It was quite late at night, but I couldn’t help myself. That bright picnic table was too cosy to resist. So, I wrapped myself in the navy-blue blanket adorned with glow-in-the-dark stars. If anyone spotted me at that moment, I’m sure they would’ve freaked out. I must’ve looked like an eerie being walking across the lawn, lol.

Anyways, my puppies Benjamin and Whiskey followed me to the picnic table. Min-Min boy was away for a couple of days as he was on a virtual tour. I missed him a lot, but he called me every day after the concert wrapped up.

I felt like calling him as I sat at the picnic table, but we had already had our daily call. And it was quite late, I was sure he would be fast asleep, exhausted from performing at the concert. But I was in for a surprise. Right at that moment my phone rang, it was Min.

“Min?”

“Hi babe, how come you’re awake?”, he asked, his voice raspy.

“I was gonna ask you the same question…”, I said smiling.

“I miss you”

“I miss you too”

There was silence for a bit, but it wasn’t awkward, it was comfortable. We just wanted to be with each other.

“Whatcha doing?”, he asked.

“I’m at the picnic table”

“I wish I could join you…”

“I wish you could too”

“Just a few more days…”

“Yup, how are the concerts going?”

“Really well, I’ve missed performing a lot. It felt good meeting the fans, even though it was through a screen”

“That’s nice. I’ve been streaming the concerts every day, you guys are awesome!”

“Did you notice anything about me?”

“Hmm?”

“The finger heart and the word I said?”

“OH. MY. GOSH!”

“YES! HAHA!”

“You DID say my name!”

“Yes babe, no one noticed it because I didn’t use the mic. But I knew you would….”

“Kenzie…”, he whispered.

“Say it again…”

“Mackenzie, saranghaeyo…”

“Nado”

“Are you saying you love yourself too?”

“Yes”, I giggled

“Hmmm….”

“I love you too Min-Min”

“Say it again”

“I’ll say it when you come home”

“Kenzieeee”, I could hear him yawn.

“Min-Min, sleep baby, you must be exhausted”

“I am, but I miss you”

“Same….”

“Hmmmm…I think you should go inside now…”

“Min, don’t say that, I’ll freak out”, I said looking around me.

“Haha, don’t worry, if anything is there Benji and Whiskey will start barking”

“True, they are sound asleep”

“But still, go inside so that I can sleep in peace”

“Araso, araso, I’ll go inside in 5 minutes”

“Ok”

“Min-Min, sleep, I’ll talk to you tomorrow”

“Okay, love you”

“Love you too”

An Eventful Canoe Ride

“Min!” “Kenzie! Wait!” “Whiskey jumped into the lake!” “Gwenchana, Gwenchana, he’s used to swimming alone”, said Min as he lifted me bridal style and set me on my feet. “You could’ve fallen in…”, he said as he pulled in the canoe closer to the steps of the floating house. “You don’t even know how to…
