Surprise – Part One

 “Benjamin! Whiskey! Get back here!”

I woke up to Minseok calling out to our puppies. It was a cold winters morning, I was snuggled up under my soft blanket adorned with stars that glowed in the dark. It still had a slight glimmer to it, since it was early morning and the sunlight hadn’t entered the room yet.

It was too cosy to get out of bed so I just lay under the covers, waiting for sleep to come again. After a few minutes, I was almost back to dreamland when I felt someone sit on the edge of the bed and touch my face.

“Kenzie?”, Min whispered and kissed my cheek.

“Hmm…”, I was half asleep.

“I have a surprise for you…”, he whispered in my ear.

I guess I must’ve fallen asleep. All I remember was my blanket being pulled away and waking up because of the sudden coldness all around.

“Miiinnnnn….” I whined and sat crossed-legged on the bed, my eyes still closed.

“Babe, I had to do this, you weren’t waking up…”, he said apologetically and gently pulled me off the bed. He guided me to the washroom, nudged me inside and shut the door.

“Kenzie, we need to leave in 30 minutes. I’ve kept your clothes on the door rack. And your makeup pouch is next to the basin”, he called out from outside the door.

“Min, where is my…”

“It’s folded and kept near the basin”

..towel. Oh ok…”

I was still all sleepy when I stepped out.

“Min, what’s going on?”, I asked, not sure what exactly was happening. I was just following Min’s instructions.

“We’re going out for breakfast”, he said while he put on my socks and Converse shoes. I felt like a little girl being dressed for school. I liked it though. It had been ages since someone put on socks for me. I guess the last time this happened may have been when I was in kindergarten.

He had a good sense of fashion. He chose a black round neck t-shirt and a pair of navy blue dungarees for me to wear. It went well with my light blue ankle-length Converse with white laces. As usual, I had my hair tied up in a high ponytail. My makeup was compact, eyeliner and a pinkish gloss.

I noticed he matched our outfits, from the colour perspective. He wore a black round neck t-shirt and dark blue jeans. He wore ankle-length Converse too, but they were black with white laces.

“Come, let’s go”, he said.

I followed him out the bedroom, down the staircase and out the front door when he suddenly stopped.

“Wait, I forgot something”, he turned around all of a sudden and I walked right into him. I banged my head on his chest.

He laughed and kissed me on the lips.

“Needed some lip gloss”, he smirked and winked at me.

I rolled my eyes, but I liked his flirtiness. He took my hand and we made our way to the Audi Q7.

There was a chill in the air and the warmth inside the car was a welcome change.

“Buckled up?”, he asked as he checked if I had put on my seat belt.

“Where are we going?”, I asked.

“Shhh, it’s a surprise”, he said as he put the car in drive and inched out of our parking space.

But I had this nagging feeling like we had forgotten something. I turned around and saw a picnic basket on the back seat. I smiled to myself, getting excited about Jin’s surprise. Then suddenly it hit me – the puppies!

“Benji and Whiskey!”, I said, while taking off my seat belt and trying to open the door.

“Calm down Kenzie”, he stopped the car and put my seat belt back on. He leaned across and closed the door I had managed to open. He took my face in his palms and gazed in my eyes for a couple of seconds.

“They are at home, don’t worry”, he said and I immediately let out a sigh of relief.

“Your surprise awaits…”, he said and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.

Surprise – Part Two

“Min, seriously, where are we going?”, I asked Minseok as the route he was taking lead off onto mud road. “We’re almost there…”, he replied, and as if right on cue, in the distance I spotted a clearing overlooking a lake. “Is this the same lake outside our house?” “Yes, we are on the opposite…
